El Pastor Mexican Restaurant

Reviews

Probably the best and most consistent taqueria in Madison. Quality and portion size have actually improved the past couple years. Good steak burritos, decent chili relenos, tacos, etc.       Timmy T. Cook, IL

I just want to mention that the caldo de res here is really very good.  I pack away a whole bowl.  I've had caldo de res other places, and this one is particularly fresh tasting.  The beef is nice and tender, the broth is flavorful, and vegetables are fresh tasting.

I don't claim to be an expert on the dish, but of all the places I've eaten at in Madison, it's my absolute favorite.  I'd order it again, and again (and in fact I've been doing that).       John R.  Los Angeles, CA

Lamb Barbacoa!!!! That's all you need to know about this place. Everything I've had here has been OK to good, but the Lamb Barabacoa is great. Eat it in a taco or as an entree plate.
While they are the only place thatr lists huitlacoche (corn smut) on their menu, they've been out of it each time I've tried to order it. The little cantina is cute, with a decent tequila selection and fair prices.           Patrick D. Madison, WI

This is the best and most authentic Mexican food I have had in Madison. I had a burrito (the "medium" size was huge!), and split a chile relleno with my friend. He had a torta with their el pastor (pork) on it- everything was super good! I have found my place for Mexican food. Muy bueno.                    Doctress Julia B. Madison WI

Great authentic Mexican and the best chorizo and pastor in Madison. Not horribly creative but traditional Mexican doesn't need to be. One of Madison's best kept secrets .  Burt Tower

Hands down El Pastor makes the best over-all tacos in the city. Warm and well seasoned meat with fresh lettuce, onions and cilantro served inside two corn tortillas at $1.95/ taco with avocado its hard to beat. In addition to the food, the service has always been speedy and friendly even during peek hours.             Odanah   Madison, WI  Trip Advisor

I don't see how this place quite qualifies as a hole-in-the-wall joint. It's actually a restaurant with plenty of seating, waitresses, etc. If you're on a serious budget and you'd like to walk away full for a few dollars, get some tacos al pastor at a buck ninety five each (they're delicious, plenty of rich dripping orange fat) and fill up on chips and salsa. Dos Equis pints are two bucks every night of the week, I think.                                        Trip Advisor

Underrated Mexican. A hole in the wall in a strip mall along Park Street, but don't judge a book by its cover.        Trip Advisor

The especialidades de la casa raise El Pastor beyond taco-stand status. Tender carne asada and chicharron en salsa (pork with a rich tomatillo-chile sauce) are standouts.   Isthmus The Daily Page
